M (Mahendr Nath Gupta)
Mahendr Nath Gupta (1858-1932) was the Principal of VidyaaSaagar High School at Shyam Bazar, Calcutta. He recorded the conversations for his own reference, which took place in his presence, everyday in his dairy, as it is, without editing. Throughout these records, he has kept himself in the background, quite inconspicuous, without projecting his own personality, or without inducing his own thoughts, keeping the records in their original form. Later he published the records of his dairy, in its original form and content, under the pseudo-name ‘M’, between 1897 and 1932, in five volumes.
